Secret Coast Radio #22

NSP Meditations, secret coast radio

Welcome to the Secret Coast Radio podcast broadcasting somewhere on the Secret Coast

Let us begin by saying:

We prefer the first person plural over the singular.

We prefer mystery over journalism.

We prefer the milk of human kindness over milk and drinking scotch over scotching ideas.

We prefer books over tweets, sashaying over plodding, soothsaying over subterfuge.

We prefer lakes over listlessness, naps over nitpicking and toppling live dictators over toppling the statues of dead dictators.

We prefer drinking rose on the lawn over squirting herbicide on the lawn. Weeds are fun and attract bees!

We prefer artists who paint beavers on beaverwood over artists who paint beavers on canvas.

We prefer barbecuing egg plant over barbecuing animal flesh.

We prefer believing in the wonder of the stars and oceans over wondering if eating wafers and drinking grape juice has any spiritual significance.

We prefer playing the harmonica over courting disharmony, delighting others over debasing them.

What is this podcast about? Who are we?

Like we said, mystery over journalism.

Let show number 22 begin.

Welcome to the Secret Coast Radio podcast broadcasting somewhere on the Secret Coast

Let us begin by saying:

We prefer the first person plural over the singular.

We prefer mystery over journalism.

We prefer Christmas tales over horror stories.

We prefer flag football over tackle football.

We prefer picking blackberries for our morning oatmeal over almost any other morning activity.

We prefer murals of whales or herons or elk decorating buildings over advertisements for health care, communications and athletic apparel conglomerates.

We prefer dropping out of national politics over tuning in, but realize that’s probably not the answer to create positive change.

Or maybe that is the answer. Just tune into local matters around you, or the three neighbors you’ve never said a word to, or the dog chained up in a muddy yard that weakens your spirit every morning on the drive to work.

We prefer laughter over vitriol, loafing over vexation, letting go over vainglory, love over vituperation.

We prefer RV names like Vixen and Golden Eagle over Ultra-lite and Mega Deluxe.

We prefer mindfulness over madness, measuring over mendacity.

We prefer the chirping and shrilling of a chipmunk waking us up in the morning over an alarm clock.

What is this podcast about? Who are we?

Like we said, mystery over journalism.

Let show number nine begin.

Welcome to the Secret Coast Radio podcast broadcasting somewhere on the Secret Coast

Let us begin by saying:

We prefer the first person plural over the singular.

We prefer mystery over journalism.

We prefer crooked roads over interstate highways. That’s where all the better stories reside.

We prefer fey over fanatics, super duper over supercilious, anything over anger.

We prefer bouquets of flowers handpicked from ditches and roadsides over bouquets imported across oceans from lands chiefly harvested by children breathing herbicides.

We prefer newspapers owned by people who live in the communities served by the newspapers.

We prefer a management style that invites, encourages, teaches and inspires over hectoring and debasement.

We prefer people who take calls instead of letting them always go to voice mail and then never responding to voice mail because their voice mail box is full.

We prefer for those people in crisis and despair to ask for help, over disappearing and silence, but we realize how hard it is for many to ask for help, so reach out anyway.

We prefer raking leaves over leaf blowing.

We prefer the equal distribution of wealth over extreme concentrations of wealth, like what’s going on in America today and getting worse.

We really like love and charity toward everyone and malice toward none.

We love drinking coffee in coffee shops where someone has chalked a big giant message…”You will be asked to leave if you’re not nice. Kindness matters.”

Oh yes it does. It’s really the only thing that does.

What is this podcast about? Who are we?

Like we said, mystery over journalism.

Let show number eight begin.

Welcome to the Secret Coast Radio podcast broadcasting somewhere on the Secret Coast

Let us begin by saying:

We prefer the first person plural over the singular.

We prefer mystery over journalism.

We prefer a discussion over a monologue.

We prefer building driftwood forts over destroying them.

We prefer brief stories told across a table over streaming shows that never end.

We prefer finding L7’s Hungry for Stink cassette for a quarter over finding Bob Dylan’s Victoria Secret CD for 50 cents.

We prefer people who follow through over those who flake.

We prefer art made from beaverwood than art stolen from colonized nations.

We prefer kindness over judgment.

We prefer people who evince a little curiosity over the long gray-haired transvestite dressed in tight yellow shorts and a fur coat sitting in the shoulder along Highway 101 over those who don’t bother to look.

We prefer ink stamping over 3-D printers.

We prefer using a shim to make something fit right over pounding something into place with a mallet.

We prefer Harriet Tubman on a $20 bill over a genocidal maniac like Andrew Jackson.

We prefer athletes who don’t choreograph touchdown or goal celebrations, especially when they’re ahead 50 to nothing or 12 to zero.

We prefer knobs and dials over algorithms.

We prefer great new notions over stale thinking.

We prefer interviewing elk over celebrities.

We prefer forests over clearcuts.
